Events and News

Student Center for Volunteerism (SCV) is a student organization that is located on campus at the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement. The Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement is located at the Braddock House. SCV is a place for students to plan and execute volunteer events on the FSU campus and the surrounding community. 10/27/09: General Announcements for the week of 10/26/09 to 10/31/09:

• First, if you are interested in helping to create volunteer opportunities for the FSU community or would like to become involved in general volunteering, you are encouraged to attend the SCV meetings on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at the Braddock House.


• Second, we would like to first say thank you for your continued support for this year's Relay for Life. With your support we have raised $ 1,365.00 to date. Currently, we have 400 participants and 48 teams registered for the event. The 2010 Relay for Life of Frostburg State University will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 from 6 p.m. to Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 6 a.m.
  • This week is the last week to register for the event with no registration fee. After October 31st it will cost $10 to register for Relay for Life. Important notes:
    FSU Faculty/Staff - There is a team already made for those of you that do not participate by department.
    
    GREEKS - When you register your team be sure to put your "Company" as "Greeks at FSU" so we can track how you do as a whole.

  • If you would like to get involved with the planning of the 2010 Relay for Life of Frostburg State University, you are encouraged to attend the Colleges Against Cancer Meetings on Mondays at 6 p.m. at the Braddock House.
  • Thank you all for your continued support of our Relay for Life event and our fight for a cure. We are looking forward to an awesome year!


• Third, have you ever wondered how the world eats? Have you ever wondered how where you live affects your diet? The Oxfam Hunger Banquet will be held on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Lane University Center A.R.M.A.H. Normally held ten days before Thanksgiving, come and learn how the world eats and gain a better understanding about the world and our food supply. Please Bring a Canned Good or Non-perishable item to the event if possible. All food donated will be given to the Western MD Food Bank to help the local community.


• Last, if you are on Facebook, please join us on our Facebook Group. You need to be a member of the Frostburg network to join. We will post updated information on this site and on the Facebook group page. If you would like to join our Facebook group, please search for the Student Center for Volunteerism (SCV) on Facebook. • If you would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities in the local community, please signup with the V.O.I.C.E. Clearinghouse. The V.O.I.C.E. Clearinghouse posts all their volunteer opportunities on the VOICE Website. A link to the web site can be found on our links page.
