Events and News

Student Center for Volunteerism (SCV) is a student organization that is located on campus at the Center for Volunteerism and National Service. The Center for Volunteerism and National Service is located at the Braddock House. SCV is a place for students to plan and execute volunteer events on the FSU campus and the surrounding community. 5/9/08: General Announcements for the End of the Semester:

  • First, Congratulations to the new President and Vice President of SCV. The new President of SCV is Amy Larsen. The new Vice President of SCV is Laura Weimer.

  • Second, the 2008-2009 Schedule for SCV is now available. Please visit the about page for the new schedules. Please note that all dates and times are subject to change.

  • Third, Thank you to everyone that visited our 2007-2008 Raise Your Vote Voter Registration Tables. We have helped 205 people to either Register to Vote or Request an Absentee Ballot for the MD Primary Election this year. Please watch for an e-mail from us in the Fall Semester about our first table in which you can Register to Vote and Request an Absentee Ballot for the General Election.   • Fourth, Congratulations and Thank You to everyone that participated with the 2008 American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Frostburg State University. At the night of the event, we raised a grand total of $33,832.48. This total surpassed both our ACS Goal of $ 28,500 and our Stretch Goal of $ 30,000. As of May 8, 2008, we have raised to date: $34,427.48. If you were not able to make a donation to the 2008 Relay for Life and you would still like to make a donation, you can still make a donation either through the Event web site or by dropping off your donation to the Braddock House or mailing it to the American Cancer Society. We will continue to accept donations until August 31, 2008. If you would like more information or would like to make a donation, please visit our event web site at: http://events.cancer.org/rflfsumd.
    • If you have any trouble, using the new event web site for Relay for Life, please visit http://www.relayforlife.org/ and hover over the link Relay Resources on the top navigation bar. In the drop down menu that opens, click the link Relay Online for Teams or contact the Center for Volunteerism and National Service at 301-687-4210.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • If you would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities in the local community, please signup with the V.O.I.C.E. Clearinghouse. The V.O.I.C.E. Clearinghouse posts all their volunteer opportunities on a Blackboard site. To gain access to this site, please contact Jeffrey Sellers at jsellers0@frostburg.edu.

  • If you are interested in helping students with reading, the Read to Succeed Program is looking for tutors for the Spring 2008 Semester. For more information, please contact Brittney Chisley at 301-687-4210 or send her an e-mail at bchisley0@frostburg.edu.
