Welcome to families of FSU students!  I hope you enjoy your visit with your son or daughter and have a safe trip home!

In today’s Gospel, Jesus is tested by the Pharisees.  They ask Jesus if it is permissible for a man to divorce his wife.  In answering them, Jesus speaks about marriage in a new way.  In the time of Jesus, a man could divorce his wife simpy by writing a Bill of Divorce and then tell her to leave his home.  In essence, women were treated as property.  In quoting Genesis, Jesus reminds his listeners that marriage is of God: God creates us and it is God’s will that husband and wife should be as one. I also believe that too often we hear these words of Jesus as a command and a chastisement, not as an invitation to make the ideal of marriage a reality.  For a marriage to last it takes both husband and wife working together in selfless love.  It is not about “me” but about “us.” Jesus shows us the way to life giving relationships: love and forgiveness that is lived out day by day. Let us take some time this week to reflect on the Lord’s call to be loving and forgiving in our relationships, especially in marriage.

CONFIRMATION: If you have not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation and would like to consider being Confirmed this year, please let me know.  We will be forming our Confirmation Preparation Program Class soon.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): If you are not Catholic and would like to consider becoming one, please let me know.  We will be beginning our RCIA Program soon.  You are under no obligation to become a Catholic just because you begin the Program: you have the final choice to make at the end of the Program.  If you are a Catholic who would like to learn more about your faith, you are welcome to join us as well.

FOOD AND CLOTHING DONATIONS: There is a table in the back of the Chapel for food donations for the needy of our community. When you are shopping, consider getting a nonperishable food item and bring it with you to Mass to place in our food basket. If you have any old clothing that is clean and in good condition that you wish to donate, please bring it to the Osborne Newman Center and place it in the downstairs lounge. These are two ways we can serve those in need in our area.

Last Sunday’s Collection amounted to $184.76. Thank you for your generous support of Catholic Campus Ministry and its programs.
