Today we watched some samples of what can be done with Regular Expressions (Regex) in Java. Sample code was demonstrated allowing a webpage to be scraped and all jpg images downloaded. Keep an eye out in the code section for the source.

Today we watched an ACM member demonstrate a java program that could analyze nearly every attribute of the computer it was running on. Even more interesting, the program was run from a standalone Netbeans loaded on a flashdrive. If you want to see how this was done, come to the next meeting!

Today we discussed the Ruby and Prolog programming languages. We watched demonstrations of simple programs such as a bubble sort and the Fibonacci sequence in action.

Today we saw another demonstration from our fearless leader. The topic was Java’s 2D drawing capabilities: We started by creating basic shapes using JFrames, we then moved to animation and finally implemented multiple threads for a smoother program. Expect the source code to be posted on the site within the next few days.

Today we watched a Java demonstration of client/server programs. Example code was given for a simple chat program and a more advanced drawing program. Come to the next meeting and ask if you’d like to see any of it. We also discussed different Java IDEs including Netbeans, Eclipse and IntelliJ.
